The book De consolatione Philosophiae [Boethius, 523] poses a dialogue between himself and Philosophy, an allegorical female character whom the author rebukes and questions, trying to obtain answers about the incomprehensible human destiny, the impossibility of achieving permanent happiness, fortune and the goods it brings, and human injustice, for which the just are punished and the unjust obtain earthly rewards.
